As much as I am an artist, I am also a horseman. It is important for me to take time to focus on my horsemanship and pursue my goals of becoming an instructor so I can help people understand their horses. Often when I do this I become charged with ideas and emotions that are perfect for making art about how we communicate with horses. This piece was created at the Parelli International Study Center in Pagosa Springs Colorado where I spent the summer of 2004. I was able to interact with many students who had lots of ideas about my artwork while it was in mid creation. When I was invited to ride in Linda Parelli's advanced level 3 class we spoke a lot about helping horses to use their bodies in the way that is most comfortable for them and then supporting it with our own body position while riding. It is a concept that Linda refers to as 'Riding with Fluidity' which is slowly affecting many facets of the horse world. It is amazing how a change in perspective can help a horse find relaxation with their human. As I go through my own exploration of fluidity the more feeling and thought I have about riding to put down on to paper.
