This piece is closely connected to 'The Embodiment of Equus' as well as the piece 'Cycle'. Although we have made some definite strides in horsemanship in recent years I still feel that as a culture we are disconnected to what the horse actually is as an animal. People are attracted to the beauty and the power of the horse but yet we attempt to contain and control those elements in so many negative ways. A horse has a primal power to its movement that it can use to protect itself. We take this power and try to channel it into whatever discipline we have in mind for the horse. What does a horse and human partnership look like when that energy is used in a positive way?
This piece was created by observing a brideless cutting demonstration by Pat Parelli at 'The Future of Training' seminar in Texas. Watching the power and expression of the horse as he moved was truly inspiring. It was admirable to watch Pat support the horse and be empowered by him without getting in his way.
